LEADERSHIP
A message from the Founder.
To our prospective partners and stakeholders,
My ambition for Mhatu is to build an African resources institution that remains useful and credible across generations. The quality of that institution will be shaped by the decisions we make today and the standards we uphold when conditions are difficult.
I expect leadership to be direct about what is known, what remains uncertain and what must be resolved. Commitments should be clear, people should understand their responsibilities, and concerns should reach those able to act on them.
Growth must develop capability within the business and create lasting value for the people whose work supports it. We seek relationships in which contribution is respected, difficult matters are addressed openly and progress can be assessed honestly.
As Founder and Managing Principal, I take responsibility for the direction we set and the quality of the relationships we build. I invite you to assess Mhatu through the substance of its work and the way it honours the responsibilities it accepts.
Alignment Sustains Continuity.
Principal roles
Responsibility defines the role.
Mhatu's role is defined by the mandate and the responsibility it can credibly carry. The language changes; the standard of accountability does not.
Originator
Identifies and shapes opportunities around verified resource access, credible counterparties and a defined market problem.
Principal
Negotiates directly, carries defined obligations, commits decisions and aligns its interests with the outcome.
Operator
Coordinates mobilisation, production systems, people, equipment, controls and site-level reporting where appointed.
Offtaker
Structures product, quality, delivery and settlement requirements around verified buyer demand and source authority.
Custodian
Protects governance, records, stakeholder alignment, chain of custody and long-term continuity across the workstream.
How an assignment is managed
Who is responsible for what.
This shows how responsibilities are allocated for an assignment. It is a role model. It does not state that each function is a separately staffed team, and appointments are confirmed for each mandate.
Principal leadership
Direction, commercial decisions, delegated authority and escalation.
Technical coordination
How qualified geology, engineering, laboratory and specialist inputs are appointed and reviewed.
Operations and HSE
Operational coordination, project appointments, site interfaces and safety responsibilities for the assignment.
Commercial and logistics
How offtake, buyer requirements, documentation and delivery interfaces are allocated.
Finance and governance
How commercial administration, reporting and legal or compliance support are organised.
Delivery relationships
Where it applies, we identify employees, retained advisers, independent specialists and delivery partners as different relationships. A partner's equipment, licence or professional registration is that partner's own and is not represented as Mhatu's. People and organisations are named only with their permission.
Governance
Keep decisions accountable.
Decision rights
Which matters require principal approval and which may be delegated.
Delegations
The scope, limits and duration of each appointment and signing authority.
Change control
Changes to scope, cost, timing or obligations are documented before being treated as agreed.
